As i arrived at Carlisle 47279 was waiting the road South with a string of brand new KAA pocket wagons destined for use as piggyback wagons on a cement flow between Westbury and Southampton. The train ran as 6Z23 Rosyth Dk Yd-Bristol East Depot

90005 approaches the station with a Euston-Glasgow service

47830 was comandeered to take a crippled MK3 from Wapping Sidings to Polmadie, a move which probably take a long while as the MK3 was on a wheel skate!!

Still wearing GNER livery, 90024 approaches from the South with a Mail train

60032 winds its train off the Tyne Valley line with the 6Z92 empty hoppers from Tees Yard. These continue to Hardendale overnight to be loaded with Lime and then on to Redcar the following day.

DRS Intermodals were in their infancy back in 2003 and Pairs of 37s were the Traction for the trains to/from Daventry. However they were soon trialling 66s and GBRf kindly leased a couple of machines for DRS use. 66710 has alresdy gained DRS decals as it crew changes with 4M30 Grangemouth-Daventry

86622 and 633 pause for a crew change whilst working 4L89 Coatbridge-Felixstowe

Freightliners Anglo-Scottish coal flows were also just beginning and were all running under 'Z' headcodes. This is 66565 on 6Z45 New Cummnock-Cottam

Not sure what was going on here but 92019 arrived at Carlisle with 6M66 Mossend-Wembley Yd and 56067 was put on the front!! Either problems with the Dyson, Overhead wires or a move to get the Grid South

Over to Thornaby for a few hours on the 3rd June and just in time to see 60077 depart Tees Yd on 6M46 to Hardendale

60096 looks clean as it passes on 6E05 Llanwern-Lackenby empties

66539 heads a newly introduced (but didnt last) Liner service from Leeds-Wilton. Headcode was 4N01

56091 'Stanton' works the 6P60 local trip working from Tees Yard to Seal Sands conveying Acid tanks brought over on the previous nights 6E62 from Carlisle. The Grid would return with more tanks for that nights 6M57 working to Carlisle then Workington

56119 coasts through the station on 6N98 Roundwood 11 to Tees Dock with steel wire for export

60082 powers through Thornaby working a slightly late 6V37 Lackenby-Llanwern slab train. At this time there were still 4 trains a day conveying slab to Llanwern with associated empties returning back North. These trains have now sadly finished

56065 makes light work of its 5 wagons that form 6N30 Scunthorpe-Lackenby

Having taken numerous Photos from the 'midle' platforms i decided on Platform 4 for the day as there was some Sun promised. 92013 heads South at 09.41 with 4M63 Mossend-Warrington logs

Running a bit late (possibly due to going via the S & C), 56069 'Wolverhampton Steel Terminal' passes with the 6C02 infrastructure train from Basford Hall-Carlisle

60093 'Jack Stirk' heads the last portion of the Dalston tanks back to Carlisle Yard. Running as 6S36 the 60 will drop these tanks onto the other 12 waiting at Carlisle Yd to make 18 empties to return to Grangemouth

56105 attempted to blast the roof off Carlisle station as it powers South with a very late (10 hours!!) 7F64 Carlisle Yd-Warrington enterprise

Around lunchtime i was treated to another Grid thrash as 56069 storms South on the 7K05 Carlisle-Basford Hall, loaded to 35 wagons and a crane

With Grid music still ringing in my ears this little beauty followed about 4 minutes later!! 37698 blasts out of the station with the 6E00 Carlisle-Tyne Yd loaded to 42 wagons, a CWR set and 30 Rudds!!
